Welcome to Canberra Mothercraft Society and
the Queen Elizabeth II Family Centre

The Canberra Mothercraft Society (CMS) started in 1926 when Canberra was a very young city and most of the people working here, to develop the new national capital, had no support from their extended families. The main focus of the Society was the welfare of mothers and babies and has since those early days evolved to include all partners, grandparents and other primary carers.

In this role CMS manages the Queen Elizabeth II Family Centre (QEII). The Centre provides residential primary health care and parenting programs for families with young children who are experiencing complex health and behavioural difficulties in the first 3 years of an infant's life.

CMS  is proud of its tradition of being innovative and responsive to community needs and in this spirit has been a key informant in developing programs to assist grandparents who find themselves the primary carers of their grandchildren.
