Welcome to Canberra Mothercraft Society and

 News & Events

The Canberra Mothercraft Society started in 1926 when Canberra was a very young city and most of the people working here, to develop the national capital had no support from their extended families. The main focus of the organisation was the welfare of mothers and babies but has now expanded to include all those very important people like partners, grandparents and supporting friends.

In this role it mangers the Queen Elizabeth II Family Centre (QEII). The Centre runs residential programs for families with young children who are experiencing difficulties in the first 3 years. This could include issues around sleeping or feeding, perhaps behaviour problems or postnatal depression.

The Canberra Mothercraft Society (CMS ) is proud of its tradition of being innovative and responsive to community needs and in this spirit the organisation is now developing programs to help grandparents and fathers in their parenting roles.

We would also like to look at issues around maternal anxiety so watch this space to see what is new !!!

The cmsinc.org.au site will keep parents informed about what is happening at QEII and in the CMS.
It will also provide a guide to facilities we offer and provide links to organisations you may find helpful.

The Grandparents' Stories

These are the last words in the journey that began with the Grandparents Parenting Grandchildren because of Alcohol and other Drugs Forum.

The next step was the production of the Report which has been widley distributed and now the Grandparents have their say.

This is a book that tells it how it is written with passion and honesty and as Ms Annette Ellis MP said at the launch "this should be compulsory reading for all politicians along with the Report"

You are able to read these stories now (click here)
