International Day of the Midwife

Today, 5 May, is the internationally recognised day for highlighting the work of midwives.

Established in 1992 by the International Confederation of Midwives, the International Day of the Midwife is an occasion for every individual midwife to think about the many others in the profession, to make new contacts within and outside midwifery, and to widen the knowledge of what midwives do for the world.

The theme for 2018 is: “Midwives leading the way with quality care”.

CMS employs 32 midwives to care for the women and babies who are admitted to QEII.  In 2017, our midwives cared for 2,020 women and babies experiencing a range of issues in the postnatal and early childhood periods.

We extend our sincere thanks to all midwives on the tremendous work they do every day, both at QEII and the world over.
