International Nurses Day

Today, 12 May, is International Nurses Day, a celebration of the contribution that nurses make around the world.

The International Council of Nurses (ICN) has marked this day since 1965. In 1974, 12 May was chosen to celebrate the day, as it is the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. The theme set for this year is “Nurses: A voice to lead – Health is a human right”.

CMS employs 35 nurses to care for the women and babies who are admitted to QEII.  In 2017, our nurses cared for 2,020 women and babies experiencing a range of issues in the postnatal and early childhood periods. We extend our gratitude to all nurses for the important work they do each day, both at QEII and the world over.
